Deebing Heights, Qld: Crane collapses on home after truck rolls

A Queensland family has had a lucky escape from serious injury after a crane collapsed on their home.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident on Emma St in Deebing Heights – a suburb of Ipswich, southwest of Brisbane – about 10am on Friday.

Shocking photographs captured by 7News show the truck, which was carrying the heavy crane, tipped on its side.

The home’s roof was extensively damaged when the construction vehicle collapsed.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said no-one was injured.

Neighbours told 7News the woman living in the home was “devastated” and “in shock after the incident.

A second neighbour said they heard a “really, really loud bang” when it occurred.

“We weren’t sure if it was a car accident or something like that,” she said.

“I was very thankful it wasn’t my house, because I had my young twins inside.”

The cause of the rollover and collapse are unknown at this stage.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) are investigating the incident but a spokeswoman said they could not provide further information.

Not only did the roof sustain damage, but the crane also damaged a number of solar panels.
