NBC Drops Bill Cosbys New Show Amid Controversy

NBC and Bill Cosby had a new show in the works, but it appears that the network has made the decision to pull the plug on the show they were planning together. The network confirmed that the sitcom they’d been working on with the comedian is ‘no longer in development’ but said nothing more in regards to their decision to cancel the development of the show. And while we are not detectives, it seems that the obvious reason for their decision not to work with Cosby any longer stems from allegations that the comedian sexually assaulted approximately 15 women, including supermodel Janice Dickinson.

In addition to NBC’s decision to cancel the development of this show in wake of the recent accusations, Netflix also postponed the new special “Bill Cosby 77,” the actor and comedian’s new stand-up special from airing. The new show was announced by Cosby and NBC back in January 2014 and NBC elaborated on the show in the middle of summer.

“Bill plays the patriarch of the family, dispensing his classic wisdom on relationships and parenthood, with three daughters, husbands and grandchildren,” said Jennifer Salke, the entertainment president of NBC. It wasn’t but a month later in August when the network announced that the plans for the show had been finalized and that the premier date for the show was set for later in 2015.

Since accusations began to come out in full force his month, the actor has cancelled several scheduled talk show appearances, including one on Letterman. He’s also kept to himself, not going out and not being filmed or photographed by the press. However, his lawyer did have a statement to issue on Cosby’s behalf.

“Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment. He would like to thank all his fans for the outpouring of support and assure them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work. There will be no further statement from Ms. Cosby or any of his representatives.”
