What happened to Michael Strahan's teeth?

MICHAEL Strahan has long been known for his skills on the football field.

His signature smile has also been one of his defining features.

What happened to Michael Strahan's teeth?

Fans were shocked in March 2021 when Michael Strahan revealed a brand new smile, from which his characteristic tooth gap was notably missing.

Strahan posted a video of himself undergoing the procedure.

In the footage, he explains to his dentist that his friends, family and business partners tried to persuade him against filling in the gap.

But he said: "I gotta do what I wanna do for myself,", before saying the final result was "50 years in the making."

He had his smile corrected with Dr. Lee Gause at Smile Design Manhattan.

After the veneers were finally fitted, Strahan looking into a mirror and exclaimed "I love it! Holy f**k!".

Fans were shocked, because Strahan has previously spoken about his decision not to get the gap filled in.

The iconic NFL player turned actor and TV host had posted on March 23, "I rock my gap with pride! It's who I am!"

The former Giant previously told Elle: “I was really close to closing it up,”

“I was at the dentist having him do mock-ups. I thought about it, man.”

“I was in my twenties. I was playing with the Giants,”

He continued: “There’s so much pressure to be perfect. You can fix everything now. For me, I made the conscious effort to say, ‘this is who I am.’

"I’m not perfect. I don’t want to try to be perfect.”

Was it an April Fools joke?

When the news of his new smile made headlines, some fans thought that Strahan was playing an early April Fools pranks.

One person said: "this is like when Anthony Davis pretended to shave his unibrow before April Fools day I’ve seen this trick before lmao."

Those who speculated were correct.

The Good Morning America host took to Instagram on April 1, April Fools Day, to reveal his prank.

In a video, Strahan wearing a face mask, addressed his smile.

Michael said: "I know a lot of you are wondering, 'Oh, it's gotta be an April Fools' joke. He's gotta be joking with the teeth.'"

He goes on to say, "Do what makes you happy because I did and I am happy that I did it. So I just wanted to say April Fools!"

Strahan then pulls down his mask and shows his signature gap with a big smile.

"Come on man! The gap is here to stay for a little while. Not going anywhere anytime soon!" he continued.

He concluded that his "momma likes it."

What have people said about the joke?

Fans reacted to his joke in the comments telling the NFL star that he really had them fooled.

Model Heidi Klum commented, "Thank goodness."

NFL player Sterling Shepard wrote, "That was a good one."
